New Jersey Information

New Jersey is a Mid-Atlantic state located in the Northeastern part of the United States. It is bordered by New York on the north, and the Hudson River to its east. It also is situated largely within the sprawling metropolitan areas of Philadelphia and New York.

This makes it the ultimate ‘bedroom community’ with many New Jersey residents working in New York City or Philadelphia. Its airport (Newark Liberty International Airport) is one of the top 10 busiest airports in the United States, and among the top 20 busiest in the world. Over 20 top Fortune 500 companies have their headquarters there.

New Jersey has the highest population density and one of the highest median incomes of any state in the entire United States. Its primary economy is pharmaceuticals, with companies like Johnson and Johnson, Novartis, Merck, Pfizer, Wyeth, Hoffman-La Roche, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Schering-Plough.
Another major industry is telecommunications, with companies such as: AT&T Communications, Verizon Wireless, Avaya, and Alcatel-Lucent.

Other large industries include chemical development, food processing, shipping (due to its strategic location) printing and publishing, and tourism.  New Jersey also exports vegetables, fruits and nuts, seafood, and dairy products.

New Jersey is energy efficient and has three nuclear power plants, which provides more the 50% of the states needs. As such, its energy consumption is less than 3% of the US total.
